In one raid thousands of pounds of cigarettes were stolen when up to three people broke into the Co-operative store in Newport.
The
thieves used tools to cut wire mesh at the back of the store before
forcing open a window to get into the shop in Baddleys Court, off High
Street, between 10.15pm and 11pm, police said.
Large quantities of cigarettes and tobacco were thrown into a sack which one of the thieves was carrying.
Police spokesman Chris Ammonds said the raid was caught on CCTV cameras.
He said: “CCTV shows some very dark silhouettes and as many as three individuals during the course of the break-in.
“One was carrying a very large bag and the cigarettes were taken in this.
"It could be several thousand pounds of cigarettes and about £500 damage was caused.
“Forensic officers attended the scene and carried out work.”
The store was closed this morning while police examined the damage.
