Bridlington CID Officers have recovered a vast amount of jewellery; officers believe may have been stolen in a number of burglaries across Bridlington and North Yorkshire over the last year.

Detectives are urging residents to look at a selection of property in a bid to return items they believe may have been stolen.

After an off duty police officer came across a woman allegedly looking suspicious in the Bridlington area on Thursday 6th December 2012, she called for police assistance and upon their attendance the woman was found to have a large amount of jewellery on her, which could not be accounted for.

Following the 26-year-old Flamborough woman's arrest, a complex investigation into a large number of burglaries within Bridlington and further into the Yorkshire region was launched and a second person was arrested.

The second person, a 38-year-old Bridlington man was arrested on Sunday 9th December 2012 and further jewellery recovered; including what police believe to be a vast amount of gold links belonging to the recently stolen Bridlington's Lord Mayor Chain where recovered.Shop the latest hair flower accessories handpicked by a global.

Detective Sergeant Matthew Peach, from Bridlington CID said: "Bridlington has recently been hit hard by an unusually high influx of dwelling burglaries, despite all our efforts; arresting and charging burglars, who have been committing crime in Bridlington, we where still seeing a large increase in reported burglaries.

"I am delighted an off duty police officer used her police experience and called us, when she thought something was not quite right, as a result we have now recovered a large quantity of jewellery we believe may have come from a number of burglaries in or around the Bridlington area.

Detective Sergeant Peach, added: "It has been known for a victim of a burglary not to notice anything missing until a significant time had passed and then notice something was missing.

A lot of the items recovered are of sentimental value and I really would like to return them to the rightful owners, and if applicable charge the offenders with the crime, before they appear at court."
