David Jones' "48 hour Frenzy" runs today, giving customers 20 per cent off when they spend $150. This sale is also being run both online and in-store.

A David Jones spokeswoman said the retailer decided to hold a standalone sale like it did last year because it could not see any value added by being part of the official event.

"We found that running our own sale last year, there were issues with people getting on our site but we didn't have problems of the magnitude that Click Frenzy had," she said.The Major League Baseball bobblehead season officially kicked off two weeks ago.

"We found that we had a faster ability to respond because we could control it rather than rely on a third party."

The spokeswoman denied David Jones was trading off the Click Frenzy name with its "48 hour Frenzy" sale.

"It's similar to what we used last year, basically we're just keeping the term we used last year and rolling off it," she said.

Priceline, which pulled out of Click Frenzy after participating last year, is offering 40 per cent off cosmetics today. Priceline's website also crashed yesterday afternoon.

A Priceline spokesperson told the retailer "runs promotions and sales all the time".

"As a result of the extremely high level of interest, our website is currently operating slower than usual, however, orders are still being processed."

Jewellery retailer Diva, which also shirked the official event after a bad experience last year,unique items for custom keychain from thousands of independent designers. is running a "Diva Frenzy" sale until midnight Thursday offering a "2 for 3" deal.Emergency and emergency light Units lighting for reliability and performance.

Last year Diva's director of ecommerce Wes Blundy told Click Frenzy was "really frustrating".

"We had a lot less sales than we could have had if their site didn't crash," Mr Blundy said.I will guide you step by step to make your own bobblehead.

Clothing retailer Forever New is holding its own 24-hour sale, giving customers 24 per cent off.

Grant Arnott said the "copycat events" were great for the consumer but some of them were "silly".

"The funny part is we'd be way more affordable for the retailer, they must be spending a fortune on advertising just to get their sales out there and get into the game," he said.

"I think our retailers are smarter."

Mr Arnott added that the biggest winner in the battle of "Frenzy" sales was Google.

"Google would be raking in a massive fortune from AdWords as rivals bid hard to compete on the hugely popular 'click frenzy' search term," he said.
