Police have identified one of the three armed robbery suspects in a jewellery shop heist in Wisma Merdeka on Wednesday.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Hamza Taib said the suspect had been detained before under the Immigration Act.

“However, police are still investigating if the suspect is the person who was armed with a pistol and pointed the weapon at the public.

“We have also formed a special task force to hunt down the suspects as they are dangerous and armed with weapons,” he said yesterday.

The incident happened when two armed robbers, one armed with a pistol and the other with a hammer, entered the jewellery shop on the ground floor of Wisma Merdeka on October 31 around 6.50pm.

The robber armed with pistol also threatened the shop assistants while his accomplice smashed a glass showcase and grabbed seven jewellery items worth RM34,000.

The suspects then made their way to the back door of the shopping mall and escaped in a getaway Perodua Kelisa car driven by a third suspect.
