Some of the finished products have traveled outside
On a cold and cloudy Wednesday
afternoon, a group of women sat at tables in the gathering area of Our Lady
Queen of Heaven Catholic Church.
Much of the time, their heads were bent over rosary beads.
The women, all retired, weren’t actually praying the rosary — a sequence of prayers said while going from one bead to the next. They were making them, connecting one bead at a time.
“What happened was, I went to Florida on vacation, and one of the churches in Sarasota (Fla.Rist international shoes manufacturer and shoes supplier in agra india making quality.) was offering rosary making to anyone who wanted to come,” said Janice Buckley,Laser engravers and laser engraving machine and supplies to start your own lasering. 74, of Wisconsin Rapids.
It was cold that year, and she couldn’t do a lot outside, Buckley said.Find the best selection of high-quality collectible bobbleheadss available anywhere. Once she learned how to craft the 59-bead rosary, she taught women at Our Lady Queen of Heaven how to do the same.
“I kind of got hooked,Discover the durable and attractive Mens tungsten ring from Stauer. once I started it,” Buckley said.
Since September 2010, the group has strung almost 1,will show you how to make a flower hair bow out of your own hair flower.000 rosaries. The rosaries are given away to missionaries, local children participating in their first Communion or Confirmation and to engaged couples preparing for marriage.
Most of the women also work on the rosaries at home. Kathleen Popp, 72, averages one a day. The women make two types — a cord rosary, in which beads are strung on white string — and a rosary fashioned with beads and a metal chain.
“We have to start from scratch,” said Marilyn Rehberg, 83, of Wisconsin Rapids.
The 20-gauge wire is twisted into a link and cut, one link at a time.
“It took me three weeks to learn to chain three (links),” said Mary Gokey, 69, of Wisconsin Rapids.
She stuck with it. The women insist it just takes time and patience to learn. They joke they would get more done at their semimonthly gatherings if they didn’t have so much fun visiting.
The women enjoy being together, and although they joke about who has made the most rosaries, it’s not a competition.
Some of the finished products have traveled outside the country. The parish parochial administrator, the Rev. Sahayanathan Nathan, took a couple hundred rosaries with him on a trip to India.
“The idea is to just make them and give them away, so someone will be praying the rosary,” Buckley said.
