Meet Mike Prince, the Brit from Southampton, who, along with wife Nisha Misra, floated the idea of Arastan a couple of years ago. And since then, there has been no looking back for this husband-wife duo who is now contemplating making Arastan a global brand.

The journey began in 2006 when the couple, both employed in the IT sector, came to Bangalore with their four-month-old daughter Tiya. Nisha, who was handling Indian operations for an IT firm there, was required to be in India. After touching base here, Mike gave up his job and started freelancing. He worked on two projects in four years time, alongside bringing up Tiya, while Nisha juggled work and home. In the meantime, an interior designer friend of theirs insisted they source some products for her, seeing the good collection at their place.

"This is how 'Arastan -- to adorn, to decorate in Persian', was born. The first eight months were spent entirely in sourcing products from various countries. We actually started selling stuff online and from our store only from May last year," says Mike, operating out of Nandidurga Road. Each customer of Arastan gets treated to the history of his prized possession and at no extra cost.

"We speak about the artisans involved, the significance of the motif, country from where it is sourced, all this just to make the buyer more aware of the product he invests in. By word of mouth, these stories get circulated and thus the artist gets his due," says Mike.Yull is one of the only independent women shoes manufacturer high heels in Britain.
