Investigation revealed that after intercepting Pankaj
Investigation into the
sensational murder of a jeweller, Pankaj Vagadia, on Wednesday night revealed
that the 36-year-old victim was shot by two bikers when he resisted their
attempt to snatch his bag of jewellery and cash.
On Thursday, Vagadia’s younger brother Vijay, 33, lodged a complaint against two unidentified bikers at Ghatlodia police. According to him, the duo in the age group of 25-30 shot Vagadia on the lower left side of his chest and fled with a bag having ornaments and cash worth Rs2.5 lakh. Vagadia was shot just a few metres from his home in Shri Krishnanagar near Subhash chowk on Gurukul road.
On Wednesday, after closing their shop ‘Balkrushna Jewelers’ in Agrawal Towers in Bhuyangdev area at 9 pm, the brothers left for their homes. Pankaj dropped Vijay at his residence in Vallabh tower and then proceeded home. Investigation revealed that after intercepting Pankaj, the duo tried to snatch the bag. When Pankaj resisted, one of the accused pulled out his pistol and fired a round in the air to warn him.
However, Pankaj remained adamant and did not part with the bag. The accused then shot him and snatched away his bag. Cops are still trying to recover the bullet which pierced Pankaj’s body.
To nab the culprits, Niraj Badgujar, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Zone-1, made three teams. “One team will check the CCTV footage of last few days of buildings surrounding Agrawal towers, as the bikers must have done their recce before striking. The second team will meet eye-witnesses to get more clues, while third will check records of previously held or active criminals” said Badgujar.
