The first-floor powder room just inside the front door

The redesigns are for the Junior League of Akron's Designer ShowHouse.

The Junior League's ShowHouse happens every three years, said league representative Janis Worley. The event raises money for such programs as the league's Kids in the Kitchen, which partners with the Boys and Girls clubs of Akron to promote healthy eating and wellness.

Located near Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens, the Gaffney estate is a three-story Tudor Revival built in 1933, with later additions. It has six bedrooms, five full and two half baths, five fireplaces and a three-car garage.

"It has to be a home of a substantial size to have a tour that's worthwhile, and someplace where there is lots of parking,Customized bobblehead made from your own photos,A good battery charger is needed for rechargeable batteries adding a solar charger to the mix." Worley said. "We also look for homes with two stairwells to manage the traffic flow."

Let's begin with the grand foyer, and the wide and sun-drenched staircase that leads to the second-floor landing/sitting area. White-on-white tones sweep throughout, serving as a backdrop to hand-painted archways, nearly 40 Impressionist-inspired oil paintings, hand-painted furniture distressed for an antique appeal, a massive blond wood armoire, and unique accessories. This area is the work of Bruce Stebner, a visual artist and painter who owns Patois in Akron.

"I wanted it to have a warm feeling," said Stebner, who painted all of the works in the setting. "I wanted it to look like it belongs to someone who has collected things over time.Purchase the Personalized stainless steel ring at an always low price."

The first-floor powder room just inside the front door is rendered in a highly ornate Moroccan theme, right down to the textured hand-sewn toilet lid cover.

"I loosened it up because Moroccan can mean anything from an Indian to an African feeling," says designer Allison Perley of Perley Gates Art & Design in Hudson.

Perley, whose expertise is finishes, applied silver leaf on the ceiling, and the walls are a metallic plum shade. Colorful strung beads are slung horizontally along the sink. One piece of art has an Arabian theme with a mounted camel traveling through the desert. A tall giraffe sits in corner, the radiator is draped with an ornate throw, the drapes are beaded, and so on.

"I like mixing the old with the new," said Perley, referring to the fiber-optic fabric wrapped around urns from India.

The first floor includes the master wing with separate his-and-her baths and dressing rooms; a guest suite with a private stairway; an opulently finished office with a built-in wet bar, and a hardwood spiral staircase that leads to a finished basement. Amy Douglas of The Interior Design Studio in Medina decorated the living room that's spacious enough to have two furniture groupings lit by lots of decorative lamps. The scheme is an understated pale brown with touches of lavender and sage, but the room comes to life with accessories that skew toward bling. One lamp is topped by a large sheer mesh metal shade.

The woman's bathroom suite, designed by Denise Liska and Sal Messina of Kolour Kraft Painting of Ohio in Brecksville, has a clean, modern feeling, save for the bidet in the woman's bathroom. A ledge behind the free-standing tub in that bath is lined with photos in muted silver frames. There are small glitzy chandeliers, and oversize crystal tear drops drape from sconce lighting.

"We took the Hollywood glam route," said Messina.

In a twist, the woman of the house's master bedroom was completely outfitted with merchandise from Goodwill Industries. Piled old suitcases as a stand add a clever touch.

With bright colors such as red and orange, and white glass and wood shelving, the breakfast room has a French country feeling. A library has built-in bookshelves designed in bright colors and lots of oversize throw pillows to appeal to a woman.

There's a media room with a wraparound sofa facing a television mounted on the wall, a game table in one corner and movie posters and photos lining the walls. An iPad can control everything in the room, including the window shades, said designer Cynthia Whitford of Cynthia Whitford Interiors in Copley.
