Including a number for burglary dating back

A BURGLAR who was caught after his fingerprints were found on the urn containing the ashes of his victim’s mother has been jailed for three years.

Paul Hillier opened the container on the mantelpiece of the home as he turned out drawers during the search of the property.

And the 44-year-old, who has a long history of crime, made off with £12,000 worth of jewellery, much of which belonged to the victim’s late mother, and has not been recovered.

Now, as a result of the raid the householder says she is moving as she can’t face living in the property in Wallsworth Road, Park South, any more.

Speaking after the hearing Alexandra Lovell said: “We are moving because of this. I can’t live there any more.

“It was upsetting to see my mother's ashes opened but at least he didn’t spill them.

“A lot of the jewellery was my mother's and there is still stuff we haven’t accounted for. It wasn’t insured because I had been made redundant and had to make some cutbacks so we have lost it all.”

She said she was pleased with the way the judge dealt with the case and the sentence passed.

Colin Meeke, prosecuting, told Swindon Crown Court Hillier smashed his way in to the house through the back door on Tuesday, February 26.

He searched for valuable items to steal, including opening the urn in the living room to look inside it.

Upstairs he pulled out drawers and pocketed amethyst and diamond rings and bracelets, along with other jewellery worth just short of £12,000.

Ms Lovell, who had been at work,we are committed to providing wireless MileWeb Services Overview. had left the house locked in the morning and was called by her partner in the early evening telling her of the raid.

Mr Meeke said the defendant’s fingerprints were found on the urn containing the ashes as well as on the back door of the house.

Hillier, of Farnborough Road, Park South, admitted burglary.Provision and deploy cloud MileWeb Public Cloud Servers in minutes.

The court heard he had 74 previous convictions, including a number for burglary dating back to 1986.

Rob Ross, defending, said his client realised he was facing a lengthy jail term as he fell foul of the three strike rules for house burglars.

In the past he said he had always admitted what he had done but insisted he could remember nothing of the raid, having slipped back into drug and alcohol use.

Jailing him Judge Euan Ambrose said: “A significant quantity of valuable jewellery was stolen. The monetary value of the jewellery was £12,000.

“That jewellery was not covered by insurance so there has been substantial financial loss to the householder.”
