The 2nd annual East Coast Shag Classic kicks off at the Blockade Runner Beach Resort on Wrightsville Beach February 14, 2013. The East Coast Shag Classic is a three-day, lively beachfront getaway celebrating East Coast beach culture through the music that inspired the shag, the official dance of the state of North Carolina.

The event begins with the “Hearts for Hope” Benefit on Thursday, February 14, 2013 featuring the Big Kahuna and the Band of Oz. Beach music fans are invited to join us for this ticketed event held in honor of cancer survivors and their families as we raise monies for Women of Hope. This coastal cocktail affair, lavish dessert reception, includes a silent auction with items donated by local individuals and businesses. Lodging packages are available for all events.

On Friday and Saturday, February 15 & 16, “Shagging at the Beach Weekend Getaway” commences. This weekend package of beach music and dancing includes: Jim Quick & Coastline Band, Joey Warren “Little Mr. Beach”, the Craig Woolard Band and John Moore of the Friday Night Sock Hop, with evening ballroom concerts. By day, The Sand Band , shag and line dance lessons, wine tastings with Duplin Winery, silent auction and The Shoe Center will be on hand displaying and selling shag shoes. Women of Hope, founded by Wilmington, North Carolina, photographer and portrait artist, Kenny Barnes and his wife Elizabeth, is a multi-ribbon cancer support group. Focused on women and women's cancers, Women of Hope is a 501(c)(3) non-profit for women and their families battling cancer.

Providing direct support, health awareness education, sponsoring treatment support groups, caregiver support groups, mentoring and outreach, Women of Hope is supported by contributions, art and fashion shows, charity tournaments and now the East Coast Shag Classic.

Karlie Girouard, the self-proclaimed Rhode Island Matchmaker, has been in business for just about four years. But long before she officially started her matchmaking company, It’s Right RI, Girouard was matching couples.

In the years leading up to the creation of It’s Right RI, Girouard successfully matched 14 people (seven couples). Today, they’re all married.
