He said that beads have become a supplement that krewes throw when running short on other items.

Members of all the different organizations have their own reasons for participating in the group, but many site socializing and camaraderie as a part of their motivation.
W explained that he’s been a member of the Mystic Revelers since the group’s inception eight years ago, and that he finds reward in volunteering his time.
“The Mystic Revelers—we’re in the county seat for Baldwin County,” he offered. “We’re kind of a bedroom community. We like to bring attention to our lovely community. We bring out a lot of the population and all have a lot of joy and refreshment.”
He said that the area’s civic organization will add to Feb. 9th festivities at the Bay Minette square with a Ferris wheel, bouncy house and other items and that proceeds go to the disadvantaged in the Bay Minette area.
He also noted that any profits the Mystic Revelers gain go to charity.
“Nobody in the organization receives any kind of funds for doing any kind of work; it’s all volunteer,” he revealed.
“Talking to the other Mardi Gras organizations, the economy being what it is, membership is down. Many had to restructure and start pinching pennies to retain some semblance of Mardi Gras. We just want everybody to have a good time and enjoy the festivities—for one day, anyway.”
