Actor Mammootty surprised everyone recently when he took up a farmer's role in real life. He joined farmers in ploughing his own land in Kumarakom, much to the delight of his fans. Apparently, Mammootty is just one of the many celebs in Malayalam cinema with an avid interest in paddy and vegetable farming. "Sreenivasan was always interested in farming but it's only recently that he actually starting his own farm," says his wife Vimala, adding that the very reason why the actor bought the house he lives in now is because he wanted land for cultivation. "Besides paddy, we grow our own vegetables too. In fact, there is nothing we don't grow here; we have ladies finger, long beans, drumstick and more. Sreenivasan too believes in natural farming, otherwise why grow them on your own? You can as well buy them from the market. Even the provisions used in the house are purely organic," Vimala adds.

Although Sreenivasan doesn't get the time to actually work on the farm and the vegetable garden himself, he is the one who gives instructions to the workers, she says, and adds, "When there is an excess of rice and vegetables, we give it away to anyone who visits us. Sreenivasan takes care to eat only organic food even during shoots."
