Gold sales may touch Rs95 crore in Ahmedabad tomorrow

A large stock of silverware was decamped from a shop "Rajadhani Jewellers" when thieves broke into the shop at Mudipu on the outskirts of the city on late Saturday night.

According to the sources, the theft came to light on Sunday morning. The miscreants appeared to have cut the steel rods on the window grill by using hacksaw blade and gained access into the shop. They did not get any gold ornaments. So they took away about 2 kgs of silver ornaments which they could get their hands on.The Iron Ring is made from either wrought iron or stainless steel ring. The cost of the stolen goods was said to be Rs 80,000.

The shop owner Nawaz, who hailed from the same village, has filed a complaint with the Konaje police. PSI Shivaprakash and team visited the spot and began the investigations.

The public have urged the police to step up vigilance, since there have been spurt in thefts and robbery around Ullal, Thokkottu and Konaje during the past few months.

They said that two months ago, a major theft took place at Umar Kunhis house near Mudipu checkpost where thieves managed to loot 45 sovreigns of gold and Rs 30,000 cash. On September 7, thieves made an attempt to loot around seven houses near Samabaar Thota, and in another case a diamond ring belonging to Kanachur Monu was stolen at Deralakatte. Some thieves also made an attempt to break the shutter of a Syndicate bank near Deralakatte junction but were unsuccessful.

If jewellers in the city are to be believed, Amdavadis are likely to buy as much as 300 kg of gold (worth Rs95 crore) on Pushyanakshatra day on Tuesday. Compared to last year, the value of gold purchased has gone up by more than 11%. In terms of volume, however, the demand is likely to remain the same this year.

The demand for gold coins and jewellery in the city began to show a rise on Sunday itself. Jewellers are optimistic that the gold rush that will start on Tuesday will continue till Dhanteras on November 11.

“Gold prices have come down in the last two days and we are getting enquiries and bookings for delivery on Tuesday. Some people are afraid that gold prices may rise suddenly. For this reason, they have paid in advance but will take delivery on the auspicious Pushyanakshatra day,” said Shanti Patel, president of Gem & Jewellery Trade Council of India.wholesale fashion jewelry and cheap wholesale jewelry online supplier.

He further said that in Ahmedabad, Saurashtra and some other parts of Gujarat, the maximum purchase of gold during the festive season is witnessed on Pushynakshatra day and not on Dhanteras.“As of now, buyers appear more interested in gold coins than jewellery. They are buying the coins only as investment. The demand for 1 gram, 5 gram and 10 gram coins is the highest, while 20 gram and 50 gram coins are also selling well,” Patel said.

Manoj Soni, director of AB Jewels, holds the same views as Patel. He too said that a rush for gold became evident from Sunday morning itself.“As gold prices are likely to fall further, the demand for gold in the city will rise.
