“Photographers and stylists come in and look at the lingerie,” Gold said. “That look has been around lately [in photo shoots] and the older something is the harder it is to find.”

By that logic, the hardest thing to find in the store is an Edwardian dress that Gold says is likely from the late 1800s.

The store doesn’t only sell vintage clothes, though. There are records which Gold said are good sellers with college kids. There are also some very old cameras.

“I have an antique camera that is over 100 years old,” she said.

Gold said she has always enjoyed the consignment business and is glad she can run a vintage store because she wants to do something a little different within the field.

Titan expands fashion brand play

India's largest publicly-held watches and jewellery retailer, is increasing its focus on another revenue stream, apart from its own watch brands. It is aggressively building on its licensed watches business, which lends its portfolio a variety beyond what its home brands such as Titan (the watch brand), Sonata, Fastrack, Zoop and Raga can provide. According to Narayan, the fashion watches market is peeged at around Rs 300 crore and is growing at 25 per cent annually. Her chemical analysis of the Lake Erie samples revealed varying levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), the product of incomplete combustion usually found near steel mill coking plants or from burning wood or petroleum products. The growing and selling of marijuana

Their company, Kush Creams, produces “cannabis topicals,” which are lotions andcreams infused with marijuana’s active ingredients. Kennedy and Blue had invited them in to learn more about the pot-cream market.

“We know nothing about topicals,” Blue said as he reached for a little jar of something called Purple Haze. “Walk us through this like we’re third graders,” Kennedy added.

Megan offered a nervous smile. Their products, she said, contain cannabinoids like THC and CBD. They’re medically active but won’t get you high.

It was insane. And it was interesting.

That night, lying in bed, Blue turned to his wife, Christina. “I’m going to tell you something about a conversation I just had with Brendan,” he said. “No one knows about it yet. But here’s what he’s thinking.” Neither Kennedy nor Blue could shake the notion. Working during their off-hours in Santa Clara and Little Rock, they dug into the existing marijuana research. They read the 1970 Controlled Substances Act, National Institute on Drug Abuse reports, medical studies from all over the world. They made reconnaissance visits to dozens of marijuana dispensaries. They decided that the only way they’d be comfortable even seriously thinking about the idea was if they could determine that marijuana was truly helpful for medical patients.

It was clear that not everyone with a medical-marijuana card was consuming pot for medical reasons. But they also came to the conclusion that many sick people were being helped. “One study after another pointed to its effectiveness for treating symptoms of multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and chemotherapy,” Blue recalled. The research wasn’t completely exculpatory, of course. Some studies suggested that chronic pot use could lead to long-term cognitive deficits, especially among people who start in their teens. Still, they found enough evidence to persuade themselves and, they hoped, potential investors.

GOLD traders yesterday hit back at claims they turned a four-day business trip to Las Vegas into a junket.

It follows allegations that representatives from 12 Bahrain jewellery firms wasted government money and spent more time gambling than working at the JCK Las Vegas Jewellery Exhibition.

The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) was reportedly flooded with e-mails making false claims against the participating traders.

"We took part in one of the biggest exhibitions in the world and are disappointed with all these rumours and misinformation spread by some groups targeting us," said businessman Sajid Al Shaikh.

Bahrain was the first country in the Middle East to take part in the premier exhibition and it was organised by the BCCI in co-operation with Tamkeen.

"Tamkeen through the BCCI gave about BD50,000 for the delegation to attend the exhibition," said Mr Al Shaikh.

"They have all the records stating everything.

"On the other hand each delegate spent about BD80,000 from their own pockets for air tickets, hotels, logistics, insurance on their jewellery,we know the value of kapton tape. brochures for their products that were showcased and expenses of their staff."

Critics claimed only 10 people visited the Bahrain stall during the exhibition and blamed it on poor design, decor and location of its stalls.

But Mr Al Shaikh said only those who participated were in a position to know whether the visit was successful or not.

"Some people want to spread their propaganda and say that a lot of money was wasted," he said.

"This was a great exposure especially for us pearl traders and we showcased some of our collections that received a good response from American wholesalers," he said.

when it comes to talking about affiliation in terms

I have arisen! Like a phoenix from the ashes!

Or a groggy grad student from a shitty fifth year program.

But I’d rather have my hindsight be more poetic than that. Either way, I needed a break, my dudes, and so I traipsed off to Puerto Rico for a month to hang out with beautiful drag queens in the sand and sunshine.

And then I chopped all of my hair off! Felicity joke! But more on that later.

I don’t think I’ve ever talked about my Puerto Rican background on xoJane before, which is actually kind of strange because I have a full-blown Boriqua heart and I go back every summer, but I suppose it has something to do with my wanting to write eloquently about identity. It’s tricky, especially when it comes to talking about affiliation in terms of ethnicity, and I didn’t want to do it a disservice.

Actually, I think this talk about assimilation and stereotyping is better reserved for another time, but suffice it to say, I didn’t want to deal with people telling me I “wasn’t Puerto Rican enough” to identify as such. There are exceptions to the documentarian format

West of Center, now at Mills College Art Museum, remembers the activities of seven experimental groups that operated in the American West between 1965 and 1977. Each consisted of young people who rejected postwar consumerism and bourgeois individualism in favor of collective living, Eastern-inspired mysticism, and the empowerment of marginalized groups. "Hippie" is the usual tag for the type.

Obviously, the hippie movement is far from an arcane subject. Yet, this exhibition renders the phenomenon curiously alien — a partial victory, as it turns out. Consequently, West of Center consists primarily of photographs, videos, publications, miscellaneous ephemera, and other secondary forms of documentation that portray these groups and their life-as-art ethos. At best, the result is rich and illuminating. The loftily ambitious Drop City, for example, summoned a documentary impulse worthy of itself; the photographs on display coalesce into a vivid gestalt of the isolated, idealistic community and its impressive habitations. On the other hand, the two vitrines devoted to Southern Oregon's feminist collectives are almost repellently dry, modestly displayed as though to suggest that the chapter need only be skimmed.

There are exceptions to the documentarian format. Light show artists The Single Wing Turquoise Bird present "Invisible Writing," a fantastically trippy, 2011 video in the style of their early work, complete with mysterious flashing glyphs and pulsing, streaming colors. The Drop City chapter includes "The Ultimate Painting," a comparably psychedelic spinning wheel and strobe-light contraption that members of the commune created to visually monumentalize their belief in sacred geometry. Accompanying a section on the Ant Farm, another group devoted to experimental architecture, is a true-to-scale model of one of its signature inflatable pyramid shelters. Yet even standing inside the fluctuating plastic environment, one feels as though studying an artifact of a culture that vanished — or was vanquished — long, long ago.

The roads are not divided by a line, the yards are manicured and there is a notable absence of side fences. Basketball hoops stand tall against the curb, while sprinklers enhance the lush green grass and kids ride around the 30-miles-per-hour streets on their bicycles. In a 1963 interview with the Three Village Herald, the real-estate developing firm's president, William Levitt, said Suffolk County was the fastest growing county in New York and the second-fastest growing county in the country.

Levitt and Sons began the settlement by purchasing 650 acres in property, formally announced in April of that year. The area was divided into sections based on different letters: S, B, O, P, H and M. As the developers began construction, families began to move into the neighborhood — and some have stayed there ever since.

Denise Johnson, 62, has called Strathmore home since December 1963, when her parents relocated from Nassau County. The Strathmore subdivision had just been established and many houses were still under construction, resulting in what Johnson called a "very barren, very new" community.

"The residents here were quite resentful," said Johnson, recalling the first few years of her life at Strathmore. "We were kind of seen as the intruders that they didn't really want and we were known as the Levitt people from the city."

Levitt and Sons tried to instill a sense of community, belonging and pride of place within the communities that they established, using a system of covenants to encourage residents to take ownership of their neighborhood.

Some of the conditions stipulated in a Strathmore covenant were a requirement to mow the lawn once a week; the prohibition of boats, trucks or trailers parked on the property; and a request to only hang laundry in the backyard and not on Sundays or holidays.

The dig uncovered tens of thousands of pieces of pottery

"It's nearly unique in California, being as early as it is. It's one of the first properties related to the industrial revolution in California," said John Dietler, lead archaeologist for the project.

Spain built 21 Roman Catholic missions in California during its colonization in the 18th and 19th centuries. Many relied on ditches to bring water from rivers, springs or creeks.

"The story of the European colonization of Southern California really hinges around the control of water," Dietler said.

The San Gabriel Mission, about nine miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles, was a wealthy community that had thousands of cattle and acres of wheat, barley and corn, tended by native labor.

"Most modern historians consider it to be forced labor," Dietler said. "They entered the missions voluntarily, typically, but then they weren't allowed to leave."

Enter an apprentice shipwright from Boston named Joseph Chapman, who was captured with a pirate crew that was raiding coastal ranchos. Imprisoned in the Santa Barbara area, he was freed after converting to Catholicism, marrying a Spaniard and becoming a builder, Dietler said.

Chapman designed and oversaw construction of a New England-style grist mill for the San Gabriel Mission, a device that was "revolutionary for its time and place," Dietler said.

Prosecutor Jessica Cooper had refused to negotiate a plea deal for Tucker Cipriano, despite requests from his family, the station reports. The family reportedly did not want to relive the brutal crime in court.

The LYBA operates a Challenger League for people with disabilities in Lancaster, and that’s another option for the all-access field.

The soccer field could play host to leagues for people with disabilities, which Bosser said do not currently exist.

“We want to give options for families,” Bosser said. “We could have (people) of medium-type ability (who) want to play a more competitive game even up to coach pitch or kid pitch.”

The group will have donation information on display at The Lancaster Festival Fair Day, Haban said. The committee also applied for a grant from the Fairfield County Foundation. The fundraising process is in the early stages, but the group hopes to draw community support.
